Geology for Global Development (GfGD) is a registered charity (1165663) championing the role of geology in sustainable development, and mobilising and reshaping the geology community to help deliver the UN Sustainable Development Goals (2015–2030). GfGD has been a registered charity since 2016, and in 2022 re-launched strategy (www.gfgd.org/strategy).

Trustees
Trustees’ Responsibilities
As a GfGD Trustee, you would be expected to:
Ensure compliance with charity legislation; adherence to best practice, including guidance from the Charity Commission; and adherence to GfGD’s own governance and policies.
Ensure that GfGD takes professional advice where appropriate.
Contribute to strategic planning, monitor progress against strategy, and keep the long-term development of the charity under review in light of the wider context in which it operates.
Review and scrutinise financial reporting, risk registers and other functions essential to the proper management of the charity.
Ensure that GfGD operates transparently, fairly and in a way which is accountable to its beneficiaries – primarily those living in poverty and other forms of deprivation, and secondarily the geology community.

Principal Tasks
Attend quarterly trustee meetings, and review papers and other materials in preparation for these meetings.
Review materials between meetings relevant to legal and governance compliance, financial reporting and other key functions as set out in the trustees’ responsibilities.
Assist with the annual financial and activity planning cycle, and with monitoring progress against these plans.
Support the Co-CEOs and wider leadership team in management of the organisation and delivery of its activities.
Act as an ambassador for the organisation, sharing its work with appropriate stakeholders.
Carry out specific tasks on behalf of the trustee body, as agreed by the trustees, in line with skills and experience.
Term of appointment
Trustees are appointed by the Board of Trustees for three year Terms, and may act in this capacity for as long as they (i) continue to be a Trustee and (ii) retain the confidence of the Trustees.
Remuneration
Trustees are entitled to claim reasonable travel expenses, and any other necessary expenses incurred as a result of activities undertaken for GfGD by agreement with a Co-CEO, in line with internal expenses guidance and budgeting arrangements.
