GfGD Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Statement

DEI Statement_ Website Banner Image.png

Our mission is to champion the role of geology in sustainable development, and to mobilise and equip the geology community to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

To achieve this mission, for our science to thrive, and to serve society effectively we need a diverse and inclusive geoscience community, free of all forms of discrimination and abuse (including racism).

Our primary responsibility is to ensure we ourselves are listening, learning, implementing change where needed, and being accountable to our supporters and beneficiaries. We are also committed to using our influence to drive change in other organisations.

We acknowledge the legitimacy of the Action Plan set out in this Anti-Racism Plan for The Geosciences (see here), and strongly welcome the constructive way this guides organisations such as Geology for Global Development to do things differently and better.

We are now doing the following:

1. Reviewing our structures, activities, and policies, and evaluating what each of the 15 demands in the Action Plan mean in the context of our work.

We also commit to doing the following:

2. Set out what we are or will commit to doing in respect of these 15 demands, including how we will take any actions forward and by when.

3. Regularly reporting back on this work, in our public Annual Report, also submitted to the UK Charity Commission.

An initial update will be provided on 29 January 2021.

We are also committed to treating everyone fairly, with dignity and respect. To this end, GfGD has developed and adheres to a set of policies and statements. Together these support all GfGD staff, volunteers, partners, and trustees to enhance their approach to preventing and addressing actual or potential harm in their activities relating to GfGD, building on good practice where it exists. Our commitment to good practice is set out in our Code of Conduct.
